15 Dec An American in Paris…

What a challenge it was to adapt such a popular and successful musical film into a stage production that would make us all want to go back in time to a period rich in elegance and style! Tony Award-nominated playwright Craig Lucas rose to the challenge and with Christopher Wheeldon, who is both choreographer and director of the production, they are filling the Théâtre du Châtelet and reaping the praise that just keeps pouring in.

This beautiful show draws us into the tale of a naïve but charming American painter who falls in love with a girl he simply can’t have but who won’t give up on his love regardless. Robert Fairchild takes on the role of the painter, successfully filling the shoes of the original film actor for this part, Gene Kelly. Leanne Cope enchants us with the grace and beauty of the girl of the painter’s dreams.

The humour, wit and irony of this classic story is given a fresh flavour with dazzling and extravagant costumes and new orchestrations of Ira and George Gerswins’ original musical score and a cast that deliver the story directly from the heart. The production was simply spot on target from the opening lights to the final bow.

A must see if you can get a seat!
